BOOKS: 'The Rise of the Tea Party: Political and Corporate Media in the Age of Obama'
Anthony DiMaggio's second book on the Tea Party phenomenon comprises 229 pages of bone-dry prose that may not be as much fun to read as, say, Rolling Stone's Matt Taibbi, but with more than 500 detailed footnotes, dozens of diagrams illustrating a variety of empirical data on-th e-ground reporting, DiMaggio does an excellent job of showing how the Tea Party narrative is bullshit.

With nothing more than the force of imagination, Shelley launched a global phenomenon - a feat few artists have pulled off.

FILM: Fellini's 'La Dolce Vita'
Whatever walls existed between myself and Fellini's 1960 masterpiece finally came crashing down last month, when I saw a restored version of the film on a Friday night in Vancouver, B.C.

VISUAL ARTS: 'From Anxiety to Ecstasy: Themes in German Expressionism
One of the most striking self-portraits at the Portland Art Museum's exhibition on German Expressionism depicts the graphic artist Kathe Kollwitz. Her eyes are haunting, suggesting a rich inner life that is nevertheless scarred by profound sorrow.
